Caroline (Carly) Dennison

Ph.D. Student
Marine Biology & Ecology

Caroline graduated from the Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami in 2017 with a B.S. in Marine Science and Biology. While an undergraduate at UM she worked in the Coral Reef Futures Lab cleaning and caring for corals and assisting with ongoing research. In her senior year, Carly completed her undergraduate thesis which characterized photochemical efficiency and growth rates in threatened Caribbean coral, Acropora cervicornis. After graduating, she continued to conduct research and monitor reef health as a research assistant to Dr. Ana Palacio. The research focuses on shifts in symbionts during nutrient enrichment, thermal stress, and acidification. Now a Ph.D. student, Carly is interested in the relationship between algal symbionts and disease susceptibility especially as it related to Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease.
