Liv Williamson

Ph.D. Student
Marine Biology & Ecology

Liv graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University with a B.A. in environmental science in 2017. As an undergraduate, she studied the response of marine phytoplankton to ocean acidification using physiological monitoring and genomic techniques in Dr. Sonya Dyhrman's microbial oceanography lab. Liv started her Ph.D. in the MBE program at RSMAS in 2017, where she studies the acquisition of Symbiodinium (particularly thermotolerant clade D) in the early life stages of reef-building corals to investigate potential mechanisms of trans-generational thermal resilience. She is also interested in exploring the genomic processes governing coral-algal symbiosis in the face of stressful environmental conditions. Liv is supported by a Ph.D. fellowship from the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Science.
