Research projects include collaborative field activities on reefs worldwide, experiments in indoor and outdoor coral facilities in Miami, and genetic analysis of samples in the laboratory. These activities encompass a range of themes including molecular systematics, population genetics, conservation biology and physiological ecology. An important aspect of many of these projects is the promotion of a marine conservation ethic to public and policy audiences.

Projects

Corals in changing environments

What can we learn from monitoring coral health and diversity across environmental gradients?

Symbiont shuffling

Can we improve thermal tolerance in key reef-building corals by altering the composition of their symbiont communities?

Coral reproduction and recruitment

How can we better understand what makes sexual reproduction successful in Caribbean corals?
